WIP 2024-November Results

I’ll just have to admit to myself that I will NOT have another book finished this year. That doesn’t mean I won’t be writing in December. It just means I don’t expect to FINISH anything, which is a bit disappointing.

In November, my work schedule became saturated, although I still managed to complete more chapters on La Yacata Insurrection. As a side note, in case you aren’t aware, the first book in the series, La Yacata Revolution: How NOT to Buy a Piece of Heaven in Mexico, is FREE today. If you are curious about how I got embroiled in some complicated community advancement projects, well, that’s the book to start with.

As for December, I expect some downtime over the holidays, but that may be a fool’s dream since just when I think things are calming down, disaster strikes. Well, it is what it is. I also hope to reassess my writing goals for 2025 this month. I believe I set my sights too high this year. Stay tuned for those.

What are you writing this month?

WIP 2024 – July Results

I haven’t much to write home about just yet. I’m in the middle of reformatting Volumes 1-5 of the Exploring Traditional Herbal Remedies in Mexico series. I hadn’t intended on doing this as part of the writing challenge I set for myself this year, but needs must. I’m hoping to have that monumental task complete by the end of the month because I’m itching for a new plant study.

Book 5 of the series did pretty well during its book launch. It even made it to #1 during the free book offer. Yeah!

In July, I was also busy living the next chapter in book 2 of the La Yacata Revolution series. I met someone who read the first book here in my little town in Mexico. Considering the book is in English, I never expected anyone locally to read it, but well, this person did AND passed it around, so there are several people in town who are aware of my status as an author. Just wait until he gets a load of book 2, where he is featured in a chapter!

Electricity is slowly coming my way (our house is solar-powered now), and with it, the hope for a more stable internet service. That would be such a boon! But progress is never fast here and I must be patient a bit longer. I talk about living off-grid in several books, but the most complete is A to Z Reasons Why La Yacata is the Place to Be in Any Disaster.

We also had our first baby mule born on our homestead. Rosie is mighty cute! But will certainly provide more distractions with her Animal Antics South of the Border

So how is your writing going this month?

WIP 2024 – May Results

I finished the first draft of Herb Book 5 (title still pending)! I am working on the Appendix, Conclusion, and formatting this month. I hope to have it ready to launch by the end of the month, but we’ll see how that goes. I have a whole slew of Yacata well issues to contend with that cuts into my writing time. And it’s been so hot that I’ve taken to taking a dip in the pool every afternoon. Essential for my core body temperature, but not conducive to getting much writing done. That’s all I’m going to promise myself to get done this month–Herb Book 5. How’s your writing going?

WIP 2024 – February Results

I’d like to say that February was at least better than January, but that’s stretching the truth a bit. I did get a few chapters done before I came down with COVID and spent weeks recuperating.

Fortunately, I’m feeling better, and March seems like it’s off to a better start. I’ve decided that I’m not going to berate myself over much for another flop month and just start again fresh this month.

WIP 2024 – January Results

Deplorable; that’s what the January results were. I have a temporary gig that’s been eating away at my time, in addition to the mammoth task of trying to get La Yacata documents organized before the next community meeting in February, so I didn’t get nearly as much writing done as I had planned even with making space on my calendar for writing three times a week.

I managed two chapters for herb book #5 and two in La Yacata Insurrection book, which is not at all as many as I’d have liked.

Unfortunately, this month, it will also be tough to meet my goals as this temporary gig goes through March 2, and the next community meeting is on February 11. However, I figure progress is progress, right?

October 2023 Writing Challenge Update

Screaming into the void! That’s how the writing challenge went for me in October. I devoted so many hours to working my day jobs that NO writing got done.

Then, despite all the publicity (See YOUR FAVORITE AUTHOR (ME) ARTICLE & PODCAST FEATURES), October was a dismal month for sales. I’m going to blame it on Amazon Prime days, but who knows? It could have been just a fluke.

On the last day of the month, I finally got the editing done for the revised version of The Mexican Apothecary. The internet hasn’t been very cooperative lately, so we’ll see when I can get the new edition uploaded.

In November, I signed up for Nanowrimo mostly for accountability purposes. I am DETERMINED to get some writing done this month. And just because I can, I’m choosing herbs as my focus once again. I’ve already started my research on wild roses in traditional Mexican remedies.

Yippee kay-ya-eh. Move along, little bookies!!!

Writing Challenge Update September

Sadly, I don’t have a new release this month, but I have been making progress. If you remember, I am reworking some parts of The Mexican Apothecary. The first half of the book is done. This month I hope to do the second half and re-release it in October.

Then, I’ve started on the book that chronicles the crackpot income-generating ideas we’ve tried since moving to Mexico. The working title is Minding the Business in La Yacata. I might need a month or two more on that. The rough draft is done, but the editing–oh, the editing.

I do have some freebies for you to hold you over until these WIPs are done. I also have some freebies for you. First, A Woman’s Survival Guide to Holidays in Mexico is free on Amazon until Labor Day.

Then, Sip Your Way to Summer Wellness: 10 Delectable Herbal Elixers for Refreshing Vitality is available via Edge Magazine.

And finally, Herbal Academy also has a free ebook you can download, 11 Herbal Recipes for Memory and Focus.

See you at next month’s writing challenge check-in!
