So here we go! This month, Iโm going to start with my favorite topic to write about: HERBS!ย
As you can see, I have five books in this category, more than the other WIP lists. My plan is to start the year out with these, work the entire month on them, and come back later in the year to work some more on them. Yippee!!
The Womenโs Health Apothecary is still in the writing stage. I have no idea how long thatโs going to take me. The more remedies I research, the more herbs I find to research. I love it!
And finally, the herb coloring book is coming along. I havenโt decided exactly which herbs to include, but all the drawings are by my talented artist friend Claudia Guzes.ย
Each morning, starting today, I will complete a lesson from Leonie Dawsonโs 40 Days to a Finished Book course.ย
I also thought Iโd use this Herbal Intention worksheet from Herbal Academy to help keep my focus. Iโve filled in my intentions for January, and weโll see how I do. If youโd like your own worksheet, you can download it free here.ย
Iโve amassed a pile of WIPs that I decided to conquer this year. So instead of a new reading challenge (which I did poorly on last year), Iโm going to set myself a writing challenge in 2023.
Hereโs what I have in mind–
Each month, Iโd like to tackle one (or more if Iโm feeling feisty) title on my humongous WIP list. Most of the books are in draft form, at least, although some are still in the research phase (and those are the ones I tend to focus on, hence the backlog of unfinished manuscripts).ย
Iโm going to go through Leonie Dawsonโs 40 Days to a Finished Book course again (perhaps several times throughout the year) to keep my motivation level high. Her crass weirdness really kickstarts my creativity!ย
Since Iโm focusing on writing, that means Iโm not going to concentrate much on marketing this year. I have automatic Amazon ads running and my regular social media blasts, but other than that, I donโt plan on adding anything new. Hopefully, in 2024 Iโll have a rash of new books to promote, and Iโll be able to devote the entire year to learning new marketing strategies.
So stay tuned as I post regular progress updates every month. Feel free to set your own 2023 writing or reading goals, and keep me apprised as well!

The other day I decided that Iโd gotten into a rut with my reading. It was time for a little something different. So when Jazalyn offered me a copy ofRose: Future Heart to review, I jumped at the chance for a little poetry.
It was a quick read. Most of the poems were between 10 and 15 lines. The themes were universal: love, betrayal, self-acceptance, personal growth, and some allusions to bullying. They were mostly general. No details were given about the situations that inspired the poems. The point of view either was from a โSheโ perspective or a first-person โIโ perspective and written in free-verse with occasional rhyme and meter.
For a little light reading, this book was fine. However, if the reader wants a little more substance, then they probably wonโt find it between these covers. The vagueness of the incidents described and the focus on the poetโs emotional state kept the words from sticking. On the other hand, the book is ideal for teenagers and young adults just coming to terms with being themselves.ย The poem Im-Possible Dream is a good example. In it, the poet talks about how they have yet to achieve anything just yet but has the confidence that soon that will change, much like any young adult at the precipice of becoming.
So if you are looking for something along the lines of literary Tik-Tok, then Rose: Future Heart is for you.
Perhaps you have experienced something in your life that would add value to a childโs development and understanding of the world. With a childrenโs book, you can open a childโs mind to important issues and help to prepare them for their life journey.
A story can safely take children out of their inner world and open their hearts to experience kindness, empathy, and compassion for themselves and others. Stories can also help them to understand in gentle terms complex subjects like death, divorce, and where babies come from.
If you are ready to publish your childrenโs book then you wonโt want to miss out on this bundle of goodies!
